The second man of a machine-gun position: Commando Kieffer - Soldier 14 in 1:35 scale carries the tripod mount for a Vickers machine gun.
Responsibility details are not available.
The last figure of the Kieffer line is listed as a rifleman carrying the tripod mount of a heavy machine gun on his back. It makes a natural counterpart to the figure with the weapon itself, and together they add up to a complete crew. The printed resin figure is sold separately.
A heavy machine gun was carried stripped down, because not even a fit soldier can manage the whole set across sand and concrete obstacles. One man carried the weapon, a second the mount and a third the ammunition boxes; only on the spot did that turn into a firing position within a few tens of seconds. In a landing on a coast, where every meter was hard won, this drill decided whether a detachment would get any support at all.
When you set both figures on a shared base, think their distance from one another and their angles out first, because a later shift tends to show. A metal tripod mount takes a cooler gray shade than the textile parts of the equipment, which does the whole thing good. You create a sandy surface on a base with fine sand set into a thin putty; dry tufts of grass set into glue then give the scene a coastal character.
The casting has no finish applied and awaits sanding, gluing and painting.
