About product

Mr.Paint Marking Blue — Acrylic Modeling Paint, 17 ml

This product is a modeling paint, not a kit. It comes from the Aqua line by Slovak manufacturer Mr.Paint and is a water-thinnable acrylic — different chemistry from the same manufacturer's well-known lacquer (nitro) line. It is thinned with water or the manufacturer's acrylic thinner, is gentler on plastic, and puts less strain on your breathing while working. The package holds 17 ml in a dropper bottle; the paint is mixed to an airbrush consistency and is usually sprayed straight from the bottle. It dries to a satin finish.

What a marking paint is for

The manufacturer places this shade among RAF aircraft markings from the Second World War — meaning roundels, stripes, codes, and other lettering. Marking colors have a different job than camouflage: they are applied over a finished camouflage coat, usually through a stencil or mask, and therefore need good coverage and a clean, rich tone. A thinned or poorly covering blue would let the camouflage underneath show through, and the marking would look dirty. This shade is formulated exactly for that.

Use

  • Spraying through a stencil or mask onto already painted camouflage — apply several thin coats rather than one thick one, so the paint does not seep under the mask.
  • Airbrush: usually without further thinning; thin with water or the manufacturer's acrylic thinner if needed.
  • Also suitable for brush touch-ups on smaller markings and lettering.
  • Remove the mask while the paint is only freshly dry — this reduces the risk of the edge tearing away.

Who the paint is for

For modelers who spray roundels and markings instead of using decals, and for those who need a rich blue for touch-ups and repairs. Suitable for both airbrush and brush.

The paint is supplied on its own and is not part of any kit. Ventilate and use respiratory protection when spraying. Keep out of reach of children.

FAQ

Acrylic. The paint belongs to Mr.Paint's water-thinnable Aqua line, not its lacquer (nitro) line. It is thinned with water or the manufacturer's acrylic thinner.

For roundels, stripes, codes, and lettering sprayed through a stencil onto finished camouflage. That is why it needs good coverage and a clean, rich tone — otherwise the camouflage underneath would show through the marking.

Yes, that is a typical use. The marking is masked off and sprayed; the result looks like part of the paint job, without a decal's glossy edge. Apply several thin coats so the paint does not seep under the mask.

No. It is just the paint in a 17 ml bottle; it is not a kit.
