Foam masks of the landing gear bays for a model of the Spitfire Mk.Vb in 1:35 scale from the Border Model brand. They are inserted before spraying.
Responsibility details are not available.
The Supermarine Spitfire Mk.Vb was the most widespread variant of the whole family in 1941 and 1942. It was powered by a supercharged Merlin V12, and the letter in the designation belongs to the armament of the wing, in which a pair of 20 mm cannon was combined with four machine guns. A model in 1:35 scale comes out noticeably larger than the usual aircraft scale, so the landing gear bays are clearly visible on it too.
The inside of the landing gear bays has a different color from the surrounding surfaces and has to be covered while spraying. Lining a broken-up space with tape is lengthy and leaks arise in the corners all the same, through which the paint gets in. A foam insert fills the space in one go: it is pressed inside, holds by its own shape and needs no glue, so it leaves behind no residue that would have to be removed from the detail.
Insert the mask into the bay before spraying, that is only once the inner color is finished and has dried. Press it in so that it is flush with the surrounding surface and nowhere stands above the outline; a raised edge would leave a color transition on the edge. Spray in thin coats and lead the stream of paint across the bay at an angle, not perpendicularly into it. Take the mask out with tweezers once the paint has dried, not later, when it could already have dried onto the edges.
The subject of sale is the masks. The kit, the paints and the glue are not included, unless stated otherwise.
