The smaller size of a modeling vise from a Czech range of workbench aids.
Responsibility details are not available.
The size of a holding aid decides how well it works in the hand. A sturdy piece will handle anything, but it takes up room on the bench and over a really small part it feels like a hammer used on a nut. The smaller version of this range aims exactly where precision matters more than force: at parts that fit in a pinch of the fingers and are handled with tweezers rather than by hand.
A lighter aid is easy to turn or move with one hand, so you do not have to change the position of your body or shift the lamp while you work; you simply swivel the clamped part the way it suits you. Anyone working with a magnifier or a head loupe will value that twice over, because the sharp zone is narrow and hunting for it again after every movement costs time. And on a crowded bench it is easier to find room for a small piece than for a large stand.
It proves itself above all when cleaning up sprue gate remnants, drilling small holes and gluing photo-etched parts, where even the slightest movement means a mistake. It pays to put a mat or a piece of cloth underneath: it catches dropped small parts and at the same time keeps the vise from sliding on a smooth bench. The manufacturer also makes the same type in a larger and in a round version, so they can be alternated according to the work in hand and several parts can be held at once at different stages. On a larger build that cuts idle time considerably, because you do not have to wait for one joint to dry before carrying on with the next piece.
