A pilot's seat with molded seat belts for the early form of the Italian Macchi MC.202 Folgore fighter, 1:32 scale.
Responsibility details are not available.
The Macchi C.202 was given the name Folgore, meaning lightning, and it was the best production fighter the Regia Aeronautica put into service in the Second World War. It came about by joining the airframe of the older C.200 type with a German V engine built under license, which gave it the speed and the rate of climb that radial engines of Italian manufacture could not offer. It entered combat from the autumn of 1941 over Libya and Malta, and its pilots took to it quickly.
In a large scale the seat is one of the first things a visitor to a display case notices. The casting joins the shell and the straps into a single whole, so the assembling of photo-etched straps and their laborious bending into a natural shape is avoided. The shape of the cushion, the cutouts in the backrest and the run of the straps over the edges match the early form of the machine.
The recommended painting begins with a metal base, continues with Italian interior green on the shell and ends with the straps in a shade of unbleached linen with a dark wash into the folds. The buckles need only be suggested with a thin brush in steel color, and a light pass with the edge of a graphite pencil will give the metal places some wear.
The part is seated in the cockpit before the fuselage is closed up. It pays to try beforehand how high the seat stands against the edge of the cockpit opening, because once the glue has dried it can no longer be moved. Anyone who wants to go further will add an armor plate behind the backrest and suggest the runs of cables around it.
The position of the control column and the rudder pedals follows from how the seat sits, so it tends to be practical to fit it as the first part of the whole interior.
