About product

British FV18001 Mk.1 80in 4x4 Utility Vehicle Late 1:35 (Gecko Models)

An injection-molded plastic model of the British FV18001 Mk.1 light off-road vehicle with an 80-inch wheelbase and all-wheel drive (4x4), in the late production form (Late), in 1:35 scale from Gecko Models. The kit offers a fully detailed driver's compartment and engine bay, two tire tread patterns and an optional rear tilt. The box holds photo-etched parts and decals. The exact number of parts and schemes is not stated here, because it has not been verified.

The real subject

The FV18001 belongs to the early generation of British light 4x4 off-road vehicles with a short 80-inch wheelbase from the start of the 1950s, that is from the period of the Korean War. Compact dimensions and all-wheel drive made it an all-round machine for reconnaissance, liaison and the carrying of people and materiel. The late production version differs from the early ones in details of execution. The vehicle is regarded as the forerunner of the later famous family of British off-road cars.

Building and painting tips

With off-road vehicles it pays to assemble and paint the chassis, the engine and the cab interior before the body is closed. Glue the plastic parts with liquid modeling cement for plastic and the photo-etched parts with cyanoacrylate glue (super glue). Lay down a primer before painting and airbrush the paint in thin coats. Fine-tune the weathering with dark washes in the recesses and with pigments for dust and mud effects on the wheels and the chassis; a light dry brush will bring the canvas tilt to life.

Who the model is for

  • Modelers interested in postwar British military vehicles
  • Collectors of light 4x4 off-road vehicles in 1:35 scale
  • Builders of dioramas from the period of the Korean War

The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
