A set of 3D printed parts in 1:32 scale that captures the German Spanner-Anlage infrared device in all three forms, I, II and III.
Responsibility details are not available.
The Spanner-Anlage was a German infrared device of the Second World War that was meant to help a crew find a target in the dark of night. It worked in the invisible part of the spectrum: the image captured in the infrared band was converted into a form the eye can make out on a small screen in the cockpit. Forms I, II and III came about one after another and differed in their arrangement. The benefit fell short of expectations, because the range and the resolution were not enough to pick up an aircraft reliably, and in the end radar sets took over the main role in night fighting.
According to the name this is one set in which all three forms are represented, that is Spanner-Anlage I, II and III. The parts are made by 3D printing, which the name states explicitly. With equipment this small, printing manages the fine edges and the thin brackets that are clearly apparent on a model in 1:32 scale for a device the size of a box. The placement on a particular machine and further details are given in the manufacturer's instructions.
Cut the print supports off with a sharp blade a little way from the part and sand their marks down with fine abrasive paper. The parts are not polystyrene and are bonded with super glue. Wash and degrease them before painting so that no print resin residue stays on the surface, and use a primer; only on that does a thin layer of the shade hold without covering the fine relief.
For modelers of German aircraft in 1:32 scale who build less usual equipment. The model, paints and glue are not included in this set, unless stated otherwise.
