Omask 1:72 Polikarpov I-16, landing gear bay plugs (for the Zvezda kit) are shaped masks of flexible EVA foam that go into the bay, seal it themselves and protect it from paint during spraying. It is not a kit; you have to have the Zvezda Polikarpov I-16 model.

A mask set from the Czech maker Omask, shaped for the landing gear bays of the Polikarpov I-16 model in 1:72 scale from Zvezda. The plugs are made of flexible EVA foam. It is NOT a kit: the Zvezda I-16 model itself is not included in the package and you have to have it.
A landing gear bay is a deep cavity that a modeler paints first. Before the fuselage and the wing are sprayed from outside, it has to be masked, or the finished interior of the bay is ruined. Tape and cotton mask a deep irregular cavity badly and do not seal it anyway. A foam plug is pushed into the bay and compressed, so it seals itself, which means it does not have to fit to hundredths of a millimeter as a hard 3D print does, and it holds with no glue. Once the paint has dried it is simply taken out and can be used again. In 1:72 scale masking bays is particularly tiresome: they are small, deep and hard to reach, so a shaped plug saves more time here than in larger scales.
The Polikarpov I-16 was a Soviet fighter of the 1930s and one of the first production monoplanes in the world with retractable landing gear and an enclosed cockpit, a genuinely revolutionary machine in its day. You recognize it by its barrel-shaped, extremely short fuselage. The landing gear retracted neither hydraulically nor electrically: the pilot wound it up by hand with a crank in the cockpit, which meant dozens of turns after every take-off. The I-16 fought in the Spanish Civil War, where it was among the best, but by the start of the German attack on the Soviet Union it was already obsolete against its new opponents.
Paint the bay first and let it cure thoroughly. Insert the plug with dry fingers or tweezers, press it in so that it lines up with the outline of the bay, and then spray the exterior color. The foam also keeps sanding dust from the surrounding joints out of the painted bay. Take the plugs out only once the paint has dried; do not work with foam across the sharp edge of fresh lacquer.
The package holds masking plugs only. The model, paints, glue and other accessories are not included, unless stated otherwise.
