A deck part of wood for a model of the German heavy cruiser Admiral Hipper in 1:700 scale, shaped after the form of the ship in 1941. It is stuck onto the horizontal surfaces of the model and replaces the plastic deck with a material that has grain and color of its own. In so small a scale that is a difference even a layman will notice: wood catches the light differently from paint and the shade changes slightly across the surface, so the deck does not come across as a single slab.
The Admiral Hipper was the first of a series of German heavy cruisers which in the Second World War operated above all in the North Atlantic and off the Norwegian coast. The main armament was eight 20.3-centimeter guns in four twin turrets, two forward and two aft. The figure 1941 in the name refers to the form of the ship in that year, that is to the particular arrangement of superstructure and deck areas the part is cut for.
Lay the part down dry first and check how it sits against the outlines of your kit, because deck parts tend to be cut for a particular model. The plastic underneath has to be flat, clean and degreased, or the wood will lift where the dirt is. Before sticking it on, check in the instructions whether the veneer has an adhesive layer or whether it is glued separately. You can bring the finished deck out with a light glaze, but do not varnish it heavily, as that would cost you the very grain you are getting a wooden deck for.
The package holds the deck part only. The kit, the paints and the glue are not included, unless stated otherwise.
