A color photo-etched set of figures in 1:700 scale from the Czech manufacturer Eduard. It is not a plastic kit but a detail accessory – a fret of fine etched figures of Japanese sailors that bring the deck of a model of an Imperial Japanese Navy (IJN) ship to life. The figures are pre-colored, so once cut from the fret they are practically ready to be placed.
The Imperial Japanese Navy was among the strongest fleets in the world during the Second World War and its ships carried numerous crews. In the small 1:700 scale a deck model looks empty until there are people on it — and it is the placement of the crew that gives a battleship or a cruiser scale and life. The set therefore aims at collectors who want to take their ship models toward a realistic scene.
Cut the photo-etched figures carefully from the fret with a sharp knife, ideally on a hard surface. Glue them with cyanoacrylate in small drops; thinned PVA glue suits the final fixing without smearing the surroundings. The color rendering only needs gentle highlighting if anything, and the whole finish can be evened out with a light matte overspray. Work with tweezers and protect your airways when sanding.
The set is supplied as a photo-etched accessory; it is not a standalone model. The color rendering is already on the parts, and glue is not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
