The Japanese submarines I-1 and I-6 make up a plastic kit of two hulls in 1:700 scale from the manufacturer Aoshima.
Responsibility details are not available.
An injection-molded plastic kit in 1:700 scale that holds in one package the parts for building two Japanese ocean-going submarines – the I-1 and the I-6. The model is conceived in the waterline style for a waterline arrangement and is a classic kit to be glued together and painted. With two hulls in the package it is a practical way to extend a collection of the Imperial Japanese Navy with a submarine element.
The I-1 and the I-6 were among the large ocean-going submarines of the Imperial Japanese Navy, derived from the concept of long-range cruiser submarines. They were designed for operations over great distances in the Pacific, carried a deck gun and some of them a small reconnaissance aircraft as well. These boats embody interwar Japan's pursuit of submarines with long range and endurance.
The hulls are made up of a small number of larger parts, but the small superstructures and the gun call for careful separation and gluing with liquid cement. Paint them separately before gluing them together; the dark hull will show at its best with gentle drybrushing on the edges and a light patina. Set the waterline parts on a flat sea base.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
