A plastic kit of the Japanese battleship Hyuga in its conversion into a carrier of floatplanes, 1:700 scale. It is supplied unassembled and unpainted.
Responsibility details are not available.
The Hyuga was a battleship of the Imperial Japanese Navy which went through an unusual conversion during the Second World War. After the losses of aircraft carriers it lost its rear gun turrets and in their place was given a short deck, a hangar and catapults for floatplanes. The result was a hybrid machine that kept its heavy gun armament in the forward part and carried aircraft at the rear. It is exactly this asymmetric silhouette that makes it one of the most striking ships of its day.
This is a plastic kit in 1:700 scale, the most widespread one on models of warships, which makes it possible to display even large units in an ordinary display case. The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. The number of parts, the contents of the decal sheet and the choice of color schemes are stated by the instructions of the manufacturer.
Work from the hull to the superstructures and leave the very finest parts to the end, that is to say the masts, the cranes and the armament, which break off easily in handling. It is practical to paint the deck and the sides before the superstructures are added, because afterwards you reach the walls only with difficulty. Lay the paint on in thin coats, since in a small scale a thick coat floods the fine surface relief. Separate the small parts with a sharp blade and glue them with a minimum amount of cement.
The set is for a modeler with an interest in naval subjects who dares to take on fine work. Unless stated otherwise, paints, glue and tools are not included in the package.
