Fujimi 1:700 IJN Musashi (before the armament upgrade) — a kit of the Yamato-class battleship in an earlier form, before the later expansion of her armament. Japanese manufacturer Fujimi.
Responsibility details are not available.
This kit from the Japanese manufacturer Fujimi in 1:700 scale captures the battleship Musashi in an earlier configuration — according to the name of the item it is her form before the later upgrade of her armament. Compared with the more common models of the late wartime configuration it therefore offers a cleaner silhouette of the ship as she looked shortly after entering service.
Musashi, the second unit of the Yamato class, was completed in August 1942 and together with her sister Yamato represented the largest battleships of all time: nine 460 mm guns, a displacement of over 70000 tons at full load and exceptionally heavy armor. During the war the ships received ever more numerous anti-aircraft armament — which is exactly why the early, clean form is sought after among modelers. Musashi was sunk on 24 October 1944 in the Sibuyan Sea during the Battle of Leyte.
Split the build into hull, decks and superstructures; bond the small barrels of the anti-aircraft guns only after the base painting. The hull comes out well in a darker Imperial Japanese Navy gray and the deck in a warm wooden shade; a fine wash and light drybrushing will bring out the engraved detail. The model is also a good basis for adding photo-etched railings in 1:700 scale.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
