A veneer deck 1:700 for the Japanese seaplane tender Sanukimaru from Artwox Model is an accessory to a plastic kit. It replaces the plastic deck with a thin wooden veneer with the laying of the planks printed on it. The deck is intended for the Fujimi 400990 kit.

Artwox Model supplies this set as an aftermarket accessory, not as a model. It is bought for a kit of the seaplane tender Sanukimaru in 1:700 scale and it solves a single, if very visible detail: the deck. The veneer is cut to the shape of the deck areas, on the surface it has the laying of the planks printed on it and underneath a self-adhesive layer. The result is a deck with the natural pattern of wood, which with paint on plastic practically cannot be imitated, because plastic has no grain. The veneer is cut to the shape of the Fujimi 400990 kit.
The Sanukimaru was among the auxiliary ships of the Imperial Japanese Navy that came about by the conversion of a merchant vessel into a seaplane carrier. Ships adapted in this way carried a catapult and a crane for handling the aircraft and were used for reconnaissance tasks where no classic aircraft carrier was available. It is precisely on converted merchant hulls that large continuous wooden areas of the working deck remained, so the veneer stands out on the model.
The key step with this type of deck is taking the backing film off. Do not tear it off all at once. Always uncover only a few centimeters, lay the veneer on, press it down and only then carry on further. Once the self-adhesive layer has stuck down badly, the veneer can be taken off only with the risk that it will crack. Before gluing, check that the plastic part is flat, as any bowing of the hull will print through into the thin veneer. Check the openings for the masts, the crane and the catapult dry against the parts of the kit and trim them with a new blade. Painting is not necessary, but a slight darkening with a stain evens the tone out with the rest of the deck area and a fine wash brings out the gaps. Seal it with matte varnish.
This is an accessory to a plastic kit, not a model of the ship. The kit, glue and paints are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
