1:700 SMS Derfflinger 1916 Wooden Deck, Masking Sheet, Planking Masking PE (For Snowman SP-7034)

Complete deck equipment for the Derfflinger model

A multi-part offering from the manufacturer Artwox Model for a 1:700 scale model of the battlecruiser SMS Derfflinger in her wartime form of 1916. According to the name it contains a deck surface, a masking sheet and photo-etched masks intended for the grain of the planked flooring, so one package covers both the treatment of the deck and its division into colors.

The toughest of Hipper's battlecruisers

Derfflinger led a class that the Imperial German Navy considered the most successful among its fast heavy units. Eight main guns were arranged for the first time so that all the turrets fired along the axis of the ship, and the armor corresponded more to a battleship than to a fast unit. That showed at Jutland, where the ship took an extraordinary number of hits and still kept fighting. Her fate was finally decided by postwar internment and scuttling by her own crew in Scapa Flow bay, where her hull remained on the bottom for a number of years.

The working procedure

• The photo-etched masks work together with the spraying, so allow for that when planning the colors.
• Finish spraying the sides of the hull before you fit the deck surface.
• Check the fit dry beforehand, above all at the cutouts for the superstructures.
• Separate the photo-etched parts with a sharp blade on a firm base.
• Fit the fine armament and the masts last.

Who the set makes work easier for

For builders of warships of the Great War who want to deal with the deck and its masking in one purchase. The plastic basis is not in the package.
