About product

HMS Eskimo (F75) 1941 1:700 (Trumpeter)

Injection-molded plastic kit of the British destroyer HMS Eskimo (F75) of the Tribal class as she was in 1941, in 1:700 scale from Trumpeter. The box allows the model to be built either as a full hull or as a waterline version thanks to the enclosed lower plate; it contains superstructures, deck fittings, decals, a nameplate and instructions. The model captures the elegant silhouette of a British destroyer of the Second World War.

The real subject

HMS Eskimo was a British destroyer of the Tribal class, commissioned at the end of the 1930s. The Tribal class carried heavier gun armament than the earlier British destroyers and became a mainstay of the Royal Navy in the Second World War. Eskimo took part, among other actions, in the fighting at Narvik, where she was seriously damaged, and later in operations in the Mediterranean and the Atlantic. The real ship is one of the popular British destroyers of the period.

Building and painting tips

Glue the plastic with thin cement and work in subassemblies. Decide in advance on the full-hull or the waterline version. Apply a primer before painting and put the paint on with an airbrush; British ships carried various camouflage schemes during the war, which you will appreciate when masking. Pick out the panel lines and the decks with a fine line, and bring the sides to life with restrained salt-water weathering.

Who the model is for

  • Collectors of British warships of the Second World War
  • Anyone interested in Tribal class destroyers and the fighting at Narvik
  • Ship modelers working in the popular 1:700 scale
  • Builders who want the choice between a full-hull and a waterline version

The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.

FAQ

It is the British destroyer HMS Eskimo (F75) of the Tribal class as she was in 1941, which in the Second World War took part, among other actions, in the fighting at Narvik.

Yes. Thanks to the enclosed lower plate you can build it either as a full-hull model on a stand or as a waterline model on a water surface.

In 1:700 scale it is a smaller model. Because of the fine parts, though, it is better suited to at least moderately advanced modelers.
