This product is neither a wooden deck nor a decal. It is a set of pre-cut covering masks that you stick on the deck of the plastic kit of the battleship USS New York BB-34 during painting. The mask covers the areas that are to stay in another shade, so after spraying you get the edge exactly where the engraved relief of the deck puts it.
Spray the deck first in the shade that is to show as the lower one and let the paint dry out thoroughly. Only then stick the mask on, press it down with a blunt wooden stick over the whole area and especially carefully around the perimeter of every cut-out. It is worth going over the edges of the mask with a light coat of clear varnish, which seals any microscopic gaps so that the second color will not creep under. Only then spray the covering shade, in several thin coats rather than one heavy one.
Take the mask off while the paint is freshly dry but not yet fully cured, or you will peel a piece of the coat off with it. Draw it back over itself at an angle rather than straight upward, and help yourself with flat-jawed tweezers. If the edge does tear slightly, put it right with a fine brush before you give the model its varnish and weathering. The mask is for single use; allow for that when planning the painting.
This is a masking accessory for a plastic kit, not a model and not a wooden deck. The paints, varnish and kit are not included in the package. The mask is cut for the Trumpeter 06711 kit; check the match before buying.
