The F-16 is a single-engined multirole combat aircraft with a bubble canopy and a belly air intake, one of the most widespread Western fighter types. The Portuguese Air Force took it into service in the 1990s and the machines later went through an upgrade. Anniversary treatments on these aircraft tend to be striking, because the artwork is drawn across the large areas of the tail surfaces and the fuselage spine, and they differ a great deal from the standard gray finish.
The surface decides. On smooth gloss varnish a decal beds down without bubbles; on matte paint air is held under it and silvering results. Cut the motif out as closely as possible, leave it in warm water for a few seconds and then let it rest on a towel. As soon as the film slides, transfer it onto the model, seat it with a brush and blot the surplus water off. Apply a softener where a decal crosses a panel line, a rivet row or a change of shape; the film ripples briefly and draws down to the surface as it dries. Do not interfere with a rippled decal. Once it is perfectly dry, rinse the adhesive residues off and overcoat the whole model with a matte or satin varnish, which suppresses the edges of the film.
The decals are an accessory for a kit. The kit, the paints, the varnishes and the softener are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
