A set of stencils for painting the landing gear bays of the A-7 Corsair II attack aircraft, 1:72 scale. It is based on the shape of the parts of the Italeri and Esci kits.
Responsibility details are not available.
This aid allows for an A-7 Corsair II model built from the Italeri or Esci kit. The designation of the manufacturers matters here, because the outlines of the openings diverge between the individual molds of the same aircraft.
When the US Navy was looking for a machine with a greater range and load, it reached for a reduced and slowed-down successor to the Crusader. The result was a subsonic aircraft with a bulky fuselage, a wide wing and an unusually large air intake under the nose. Six pylons under the wing carried a load that had previously been expected only of twin-engine types. Besides the navy, the air force introduced it in a revised form as well and the machine saw service with a number of allied countries, among others Greece and Portugal.
Molds from earlier decades tend to have irregularities from molding around the bays. It pays to even them out with fine abrasive paper before masking and to polish them, otherwise a stencil will not seat along its whole length and paint runs under the edge. Small shortcomings are then enough to go over with a fine brush. A lighter tone inside deepens the whole space optically.
