A limited dual kit of the P-51D Mustang fighter in 1:72 scale with twelve camouflage schemes flown by pilots of the Eighth Air Force.
Responsibility details are not available.
The box belongs to a limited edition and holds plastic parts for two complete models. One can be built as an early D-5 machine and the other in the D-10 version or later, because the sprues carry fuselage shapes both with and without the dorsal fin. That very detail separates the first batch of bubble-canopy Mustangs from the later machines, on which the fin was added for better directional stability.
The decal sheet covers twelve options and all of them belong to units of the Eighth Air Force, the command that from the spring of 1944 escorted the daylight bomber streams over Germany. The modeler chooses between polished metal with the colored group markings and machines with bold personal artwork on the nose. The set also carries color photo-etched parts and painting masks; resin castings are not included. Twelve options mean twelve combinations of national insignia and tactical codes, so even after both machines are built there will be material to spare.
In the box there is an unassembled plastic model; paints and glue are not included and have to be bought separately. Separate the parts from the sprues with a file or a knife rather than by twisting them, above all the thin landing gear legs. Color photo-etched parts are glued with cyanoacrylate or with clear varnish, as ordinary modeling cement will not hold them. Apply the masks only onto a finished gloss surface and lift them off before the paint has fully cured. Patience pays off here in the form of a crisp edge along the glazing.
