A masking set from MH models for models of the Czechoslovak Aero Ab-101 biplane in 1:72 scale. It is intended for spraying the Czechoslovak national markings: the insignia are sprayed in paint, so they are formed directly in the finish and no edge is left behind on the surface of the model. The package contains masking pieces, and the model itself and paints are not part of it.
Ab-101 was the designation under which the development successor to the Aero A-100 type served with the Czechoslovak Air Force in the second half of the 1930s. It was a two-seat single-engine biplane of mixed construction with a fixed landing gear, used in the light bomber and reconnaissance role. Compared with the older A-100 it received a more powerful engine and a modified nose. The export variant of the same type carried a different designation.
Marking masks are stuck on only once the surface has been sprayed and is perfectly dry. A smooth, slightly glossy base holds the edges of a mask markedly better than a matte finish. Lift the piece out of the sheet with the tip of a scalpel, offer it up according to the drawing and press the edges down all round, so that no paint seeps under them; cover the surroundings with masking tape. Spray several very thin coats perpendicular to the surface - a heavy coat runs under the edge and the insignia gets a blurred outline. With multi-color insignia you work in layers and each further mask has to be aligned exactly. Remove the mask with tweezers soon after it has dried, and on cured paint score the outline with a knife first.
This is not a model of the aircraft and not a kit. Paints, varnish and the base model are not included in the package.
