A photo-etched accessory from the Czech maker Hauler, cut for a specific Hasegawa kit. It holds two items that turn an ordinary vehicle into one with a story of its own: an upright wire cutter on the front and a wire basket for a load. Both are moreover of a kind that can hardly be made from plastic - one is a thin bar with a cutting edge, the other is mesh. Photo-etch is the ideal material for them, because the openings of the basket can be genuinely empty and the bar genuinely thin.
The wire cutter was a simple but essential modification: an upright bar with a cutting edge mounted on the front bumper. Wire strung across a road was a serious danger to the crew of a vehicle with no roof, and the bar caught it and cut it through before it reached the height of the seated men. Because of that, vehicles were fitted with them after the fact in field conditions, so the execution differed from one vehicle to the next. The wire basket in turn solved the perennial problem of a small vehicle - a lack of room for a load and personal equipment.
The mesh is the most delicate part of the whole set: do not bend it over a sharp edge or squeeze it with tweezers, because once the openings are deformed you will not straighten them out again. Shape the basket gradually over a cylindrical object of a suitable diameter, a drill shank for instance, and finish the corners in a bender. Glue the wire cutter right at the end of the build, or you will knock it every time you handle the model. Strengthen the joint with the bumper by pre-drilling a fine hole in the plastic and sinking the pin of the part into it, because the area of the glued joint itself is negligible. Degrease the assembly before painting and spray it with a base coat for metal; the basket then looks better if you put a small load in it, which is not itself part of the set.
The set holds photo-etched parts only and is supplied unpainted. The kit, glue, paints and the load for the basket are not included in the package.
