An accessory set in 1:72 scale with the American AIM-9D air-to-air guided missile. A replacement for the coarser parts from a kit.
Responsibility details are not available.
The AIM-9D belongs to the family of American short-range air-to-air guided missiles with infrared guidance, that is, weapons that home on the heat signature of a target. The D version was used by the US Navy and was carried by the carrier fighters of the 1960s and 1970s. The body is slender and cylindrical, with cruciform surfaces at the front and the rear, the forward ones providing control.
Accessory parts in 1:72 scale representing the AIM-9D missile. They serve to replace the armament from a kit, which tends to be simplified in shape, or to complete the pylons where a kit offers no armament. The number of pieces in the package, the extent of the parts and whether a pylon is included are given in the manufacturer's instructions.
Cut the surplus material off with a sharp blade a little away from the part and sand the remainder carefully, so that the cylindrical shape of the body is kept. Wash and degrease the parts before painting. Choose the glue by the material: super glue holds reliably, while cement for polystyrene works only on polystyrene parts. Fit the fins only once the body has dried and watch that the fins in each set of four hold the same angle, or the missile will look crooked under the wing. The colors and the lettering on carried weapons differed with the carrier and with the period, so go by the documentation for the particular machine you are building.
The kit, paints and glue are not part of the delivery, unless stated otherwise.
