Medium height is the most usable one among conifers. The tree already has a drawn-out trunk and a noticeable crown, yet it does not overgrow the buildings around it enough to force a special composition. Most woodland scenes stand on exactly these dimensions, and the extreme sizes are added around them afterwards.
Inside are four pieces measuring 10.1 to 15.2 cm, so four to six inches. The spread is wide, so trees of markedly different size meet in the same package and a group made of them looks believable without anything further being bought.
Four conifers are enough for a small grove or for the end of a wood by a railroad line. They are best not set in a row or in a regular pattern; a triangle with the fourth piece pushed out to one side looks natural. Between the trunks it is good to add low greenery and fallen needles, otherwise bare terrain shows under the trees, which does not fit a stand of spruce.
The trees arrive finished. They are planted by the pin that comes out of the foot of the trunk, and the base supplied can be taken off if the tree is to stand firmly in the terrain. Conifers also take a slight sinking into the layer of growth, which makes the transition between trunk and ground disappear.
The package holds only the trees; terrain materials and glue are bought separately.
Conifers stood side by side look better when their tops are not lined up at one height. A difference of a few centimeters in the crown creates a broken line that from a distance recalls the outline of a real wood.
