Atlantic Wall Renault FT17 (1:72) - a resin kit from ROP

This is a resin kit for experienced modelers in 1:72 scale from the Czech manufacturer ROP. The model is cast in resin and is meant to be assembled and painted; it captures the look of the real subject faithfully.

The real subject

The model captures an element of the Atlantic Wall with the turret of a Renault FT tank fitted to it. The Germans commonly fitted turrets of captured French vehicles to static coastal fortifications; the turret of the light Renault FT thus served as an armored machine gun or gun post set into a concrete work. The Atlantic Wall was an extensive system of German coastal fortifications from the period of the Second World War.

Building and painting tips

First wash the mold release residue off the resin parts, cut off the casting blocks carefully and sand the surfaces down (protecting your breathing). It is bonded with super glue (cyanoacrylate). A primer is recommended; build the concrete surfaces up by misting light gray and sand tones, bring out the recesses with a wash and suggest dust or mud with pigments. Combine the concrete tones of the work with metallic shades and rust on the turret for a contrasting and convincing whole.
