Photo-etched metal parts for a model of the four-engine B-24J bomber in 1:72 scale. Thin metal replaces elements that come out too thick in plastic at this scale.
Responsibility details are not available.
The Consolidated B-24 Liberator was a four-engine heavy bomber with a high-set slender wing, twin vertical tails and a roomy bomb bay. The B-24J version was among the most numerously built and carried a powered turret in the nose. Machines of this type flew over Europe and in the Pacific and were also used for long-range patrol over the sea.
Photo-etched metal parts for refining a B-24J model in 1:72 scale. In a small scale a plastic part tends to be thicker than the real thing would call for, and this is exactly where photo-etch is at home: bulkheads, grilles, clasps, brackets and small stiffeners get a thickness close to reality. The exact extent of the set and the kit it is tuned for are given in the maker's instructions.
The individual parts are joined to the fret by tiny tabs. Lay the fret on glass or a hard board and cut the parts off with a sharp blade, never break them out. Make the bends in a bender or over the edge of a ruler and fine-tune the shape step by step. Make the joints with cyanoacrylate glue in small droplets. Wash and degrease the metal before painting and spray it with a primer for metal surfaces, otherwise the coat peels off.
For modelers who build the Liberator in 1:72 scale and want to take the model beyond the level of the parts from the kit. Given the size of the parts, tweezers with fine tips and good lighting at the workbench pay off. The kit, the paints and the glue are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
