A resin wheel set in 1:72 scale for a model of the Boeing B-29 Superfortress bomber in the mid production form, from Armory. It is an accessory for a kit, not an airplane model. The tires are cast as weighted and according to the manufacturer's marking the package also contains photo-etched hubcaps, that is thin metal parts which in injection-molded plastic inevitably come out thicker than on the real subject. The mid production designation and the pair of letters RA tell apart forms of the wheel, of which several are supplied for this type. Check the scope of the set on the box.
The B-29 Superfortress was the most advanced American bomber of the Second World War. The pressurized cabin allowed flight at high altitude without oxygen masks, remotely controlled gun turrets provided the defense, and four Wright R-3350 radial engines gave it enough range over Pacific targets. The aircraft was built across several production periods and the machines differed in details, because the engines, the equipment and the landing gear were fine-tuned as production went on. That is exactly why wheel sets for it are divided by production period and by the form of the wheel hubs.
