Pre-cut self-adhesive masks for a model of the Nimrod aircraft in 1:72 scale. It is not a kit but an accessory for spraying the glazing and the frames. The particular version of the machine, the target kit and the extent of the package are stated on the box of the set.
The Nimrod is a four-engine aircraft derived from a jet airliner, with the engines buried in the wing roots and with a long fuselage. For the modeler that means one annoyance: the glazing is not just the pilots' cockpit but a row of further windows along the length of the fuselage. They are small, they repeat, and masking them by hand means cutting dozens of practically identical rectangles - and all it takes is for one to be slightly different and it shows on the finished model.
Pre-cut shapes keep the same dimension across all the repeating windows, so the resulting row looks regular. On the pilots' cockpit they also deal with the curved transition of the windscreen panes into the sides, where straight tape always bunches into creases. Work part by part: lift the mask off with tweezers, offer it up dry, check its position against the frame and only then press it home with a toothpick. Degrease the whole model before spraying, lay the paint on in thin coats and pull the masks off at a shallow angle before the paint has fully cured.
It is not a kit. The package holds only the masking set; the model, paints and glue are not included in the delivery, unless stated otherwise.
