About product

Beaufighter Mk.VI/X/21 - main wheels in 1:72 scale

Replacement main wheels in cast resin from the Czech brand CMK for a Bristol Beaufighter kit in the Mk.VI, Mk.X and Mk.21 versions. The set matches the late type of disk and tires with a hexagonal tread pattern. It is not a model of an aircraft but an accessory with which the wheels from an ordinary kit are replaced. Wheels tend to be the weakest point of injection-molded kits in this scale: the tread pattern is often only suggested and the seam in the middle of the disk calls for filling. Resin wheels are glued on in one piece and the detail of the disk as well as the tread is legible.

The real subject

The Bristol Beaufighter was a British twin-engined aircraft used as a heavy fighter, a night fighter and, in later versions, as a torpedo and attack machine. The Mk.VI version was built around Bristol Hercules engines, the torpedo-carrying TF Mk.X was one of the most numerous and the Mk.21 was produced under license in Australia. Wheels with the late type of disk appeared on machines of later series; it is always worth checking the particular combination of disk and tread pattern against a photograph of the machine you are building.

Usage tips

Wash the parts in warm soapy water to remove the mold release agent. On wheels the casting block tends to be on the contact face of the tire: cut it off with a thin saw and true the surface by sanding wet, with respiratory protection. Bond the wheels with super glue; plastic cement has no effect on resin. Painting is easiest with a primer, a dark gray on the tire and a different shade on the disk. Masking can be done with a circular mask or with a thin strip of tape wound round the circumference of the disk.

Who the set is for

  • For modelers building the Beaufighter in 1:72 scale
  • For anyone for whom the suggested tread pattern of a plastic kit is not enough
  • For modelers who want the matching combination of a late disk and a hexagonal pattern
  • As a quick improvement of a visible landing gear detail

This is a resin accessory, not a model of an aircraft. The base kit, glue and paints are not included in the package. Please check the match with your own kit beforehand.

FAQ

In the tread pattern. This version has a hexagonal pattern, while the sister sets offer a smooth tire and a block pattern. The type of disk is the late one in all of them.

No, it is replacement resin wheels. The Beaufighter kit itself has to be bought separately.

A photograph of the particular machine is the surest guide. The late type of disk appeared on later series, but the combinations changed in service.

The form of the wheels is given on the packaging of the set; go by what it shows.
