A plastic kit of the American Beech SD-17S Staggerwing cabin biplane in 1:72 scale.
Responsibility details are not available.
The Beech Model 17, known by the nickname Staggerwing, was an American cabin biplane of the 1930s. It got its name from the unusual arrangement of its flying surfaces: the lower wing is set ahead of the upper one, the opposite of the usual biplane layout. It was completed by a radial engine, retractable landing gear and an enclosed cabin for the crew and passengers. The machine was one of the fastest touring aircraft of its day and flew in private, corporate and military colors.
A plastic kit in 1:72 scale with the SD-17S version as its subject. The contents of the package, the number of sprues and the choice of marking options are given in the instructions enclosed, which also show where the decals go. The parts are polystyrene and are glued with modeling plastic cement.
On a biplane the interplane struts decide everything. Try the assembly dry and seat the upper wing on packing blocks so that both the dihedral and the angle are right before the glue sets. Finish and paint the cabin before you close the fuselage. The glazing frames are easiest to handle with masking tape cut into thin strips. The gloss finish of civilian machines calls for a carefully smoothed surface, because gloss brings out every imperfection.
The kit will appeal to collectors of interwar aviation classics and to modelers who like elegant civilian machines. Paints, glue and tools are not part of the delivery, unless stated otherwise.
