About product

Eduard 1:72 Bf 109F propeller late PRINT — a 3D-printed propeller

This set from the Czech manufacturer Eduard replaces the propeller of a plastic model of the Messerschmitt Bf 109F in 1:72 scale with a part made by 3D printing from resin. The word late in the name denotes the later version of the propeller; the manufacturer also offers the early variant separately. They are two different versions of the same assembly, so before buying check which one matches the machine you are building.

The real subject

The Bf 109F was a single-engine fighter with a liquid-cooled V12 engine. Against the older versions it had a cleaned-up nose, rounded wingtips and a larger conical spinner, which strongly defines the silhouette of the aircraft seen from the front. During the production of this series the design of the blades and of the spinner changed, which is why several different replacement propellers exist for it.

Building and painting tips

Wash the part in lukewarm water with detergent and let it dry. Cut the print supports off with a fine saw or a sharp scalpel and level the remains with care — thin blades do not take rough force. It is bonded with super glue, because cement for plastic will not join resin. When painting, a primer helps, along with a dark shade for the blades and a separately handled spinner; any color stripes or spirals on the spinner are easier to do by masking than with a brush. Fine wear on the leading edges of the blades will add credibility to the model.

Who the part is for

  • builders of the Bf 109F model in 1:72 scale
  • modelers who want thinner and sharper propeller blades
  • anyone after a quick improvement to a visible part of a model
  • builders used to working with small resin parts

The set is an accessory for a kit, not a model in its own right. The base kit, paints and glue are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.

FAQ

It is the later version of the same assembly. The manufacturer offers both variants separately; check which is right for your machine against the documentation for the particular version.

No. It is the propeller alone, as a detail accessory. The Bf 109F kit in 1:72 scale has to be obtained separately.

Super glue based on cyanoacrylate. Ordinary cement for plastic does not work here.

With care, yes — it is only one small assembly. It calls for a sharp tool to cut the supports off and a steady hand when leveling them.
