Decals in 1:72 for two Flying Fortresses of the F version. On the sheet there is the machine 42-5864 of the 351st Bombardment Squadron of the 100th Bombardment Group and also the aircraft 42-5434, whose home was the 360th Squadron within the 303rd Group. Two examples from the hardest months of daylight bombing over the Reich.
Responsibility details are not available.
The F version was the Flying Fortress that carried the main weight of the first deep raids over Germany, before the chin turret of the later G series arrived. Both subjects of this sheet come from those months and belonged to groups whose names still sound in every book about the Eighth Air Force. That is exactly why the F series tends to be sought after among modelers: both a simpler shape of nose and period markings with large group symbols go with it.
The aircraft with serial number 42-5864 served with the 351st Bombardment Squadron, part of the 100th, that is the group famous for exceptionally cruel losses. Its name referred to a London district and became so well known that later film treatments of the air war took it over as well. The second machine, 42-5434 of the 360th Squadron of the 303rd Bombardment Group, relied on luck by its very name, which was a common way for crews to come to terms with the probability of returning.
The sheet holds only printed elements; a plastic kit has to be your own. It fits ordinary 1:72 Fortress models of the matching version. Before laying down the last elements, let the model rest for a day, so that the glossy layer hardens and nothing shifts under the pressure of a brush.
