An accessory set of replacement wheels for a model of an armored scout vehicle in 1:72 scale. The wheels are cast with what is called a weighted tire effect, that is with a slightly flattened contact patch of the tire, the way it looks on a standing vehicle at full weight. The tread pattern and the sidewall are drawn in one piece, so there is no need to line up the halves of the wheel or to clean up a parting line across the tread pattern, which is exactly what makes most of the work on the plastic wheels from the box. The exact number of pieces is stated on the box of the set.
The BRDM-2 is a four-wheeled amphibious armored scout vehicle with a buoyant hull, two auxiliary belly wheels under the floor and a small turret. For moving across country it has a central tire inflation system, so the pressure in the wheels was changed according to the surface; the deformation of the tire is therefore clearly apparent on this type and is worth suggesting on a model.
First wash the resin castings in lukewarm soapy water, so that the mold release residue disappears; otherwise the paint will not hold. Cut the casting blocks off with a saw or a knife, and never snap them off. Sand the rest down and protect your airways when sanding resin, ideally sanding wet. They are glued with cyanoacrylate glue (super glue); cement for plastic does not work here. Apply a primer before painting, as it holds on smooth resin better than paint on its own. Fit the wheels only after the running gear has been painted and turn them so that the flattened area sits on the base.
