The SBS Model brand concentrates on short-run renderings of French prewar racing and sports aircraft, that is subjects the big manufacturers practically never touch. The 1:72 scale is convenient for a collection unified in a single display case and for modelers who care about comparison with the other machines of the same period. The Caudron C.561 belongs to the series of slim racing monoplanes designed by Marcel Riffard for the Caudron company in the middle of the 1930s. They were created for the French speed contests, above all for the Coupe Deutsch de la Meurthe, and what they had in common was a minimized frontal area of the fuselage, carefully worked aerodynamics and an inline Renault engine. They were among the fastest piston aircraft of their day and the experience gained in building them fed into the company's later production designs.
In 1:72 scale the model is small, but a short-run kit tends to be no more forgiving for that — dry-fit absolutely everything and expect to clean the parts up by hand. Choose the glue according to the material: cyanoacrylate on resin, thin modeling cement on injection-molded plastic. Wash the resin parts beforehand in warm water with detergent and wear respiratory protection while sanding. A racing aircraft lives off a smooth gloss surface, so fill the seams carefully, sand the surface with fine paper and spray a filler primer. Apply the paint in thin coats with an airbrush; use a gloss coat before the decals so that no silvered edge appears, and once dry unify everything with a final clear coat.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
