An accessory set of photo-etched metal parts in 1:72 scale intended for a plastic model of the British Challenger II main battle tank. It is not a kit of a tank — the package holds no plastic parts and serves to replace and supplement details on a model you have already bought. In a small scale photo-etching makes particularly good sense: thin fenders, grilles and loops come out considerably finer in metal than can be reached with injection-molded plastic. The dimensions and shapes are based on the Dragon kit.
The Challenger II is a British main battle tank brought into service in the second half of the 1990s. Characteristic are the markedly sloped front of the turret, composite armor and the main gun of 120 mm caliber with a rifled bore, which sets the Challenger II apart from most present-day tanks with a smooth bore. From the outset the vehicle was conceived with the emphasis on the survivability of the crew. In service it often appears with additional protection features and with equipment stowed on the turret and the fenders — and it is precisely these details that a photo-etched set helps to work up more faithfully.
Separate the parts with a sharp scalpel on a hard surface. Make the folds in a bender or between two straight jaws, so that the edge is not rounded. They are glued with cyanoacrylate glue or epoxy — cement for plastic will not join metal. Try the parts dry before fitting and carefully cut off and sand down any plastic features on the model. Degrease the metal before painting and go over it with primer. In 1:72 scale the parts are very small, so work with tweezers and over a surface from which a small piece can be found again.
It is an accessory set. The plastic kit, glue and paints are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise. Before you buy, check that the set matches your kit.
