This item is not a model of the aircraft and not a kit. It is a set of self-adhesive masks in 1:72 scale that serves to cover areas while a model of the Curtiss SC-1 Seahawk is painted. Check the exact extent of the set, that is, which particular parts of the model the masks cover, against the illustration on the packaging.
The glazing frames are the first thing anyone notices on a model. Cutting them from masking tape by hand means working with a knife directly on a clear part, where a single slip is enough and the scratch is visible forever. Pre-shaped masks remove that step: the parts are simply lifted from the sheet, laid in place and pressed down. The result is straight edges with no fraying and the same frame width along the whole length, which takes a lot of work to get by hand. In the small 1:72 scale that tells twice over, because the frames are narrow and every deviation is large in proportion to the part.
First wash and degrease the glazing, as a mask will not hold on a greasy surface. Lay the mask on with tweezers and press it down mainly around the perimeter — the edge has to seal, or paint will run underneath. Apply the paint in several light coats and spray square to the surface, not at an angle under the edge of the mask. A proven method is to spray the color of the cockpit interior first, then the base shade of the fuselage and only at the end the camouflage. Lift the masks as soon as the paint is dry to the touch; waiting longer can have the border of the paint peel off. It helps to raise them with the point of a sharp knife at a shallow angle and draw them back across themselves, not straight up.
