Pre-cut masking templates from MH models for the glazed areas of a model of the Douglas Havoc Mk.II in 1:72 scale. The accessory replaces cutting masking tape by hand: the masks are transferred from the backing film onto the clear part, pressed against the frames and taken off after spraying. The result is sharp, straight frames of equal width, a detail that decides the overall impression on a model in a small scale. The masks are cut for the Special Hobby kit.
The designation Havoc was used by the Royal Air Force for the night variants derived from the American Douglas DB-7 series. The machines differ from the day bomber versions mainly in the modification of the nose, where equipment and armament for night work took the place of the glazed navigator's position. They were operated at a time when night operations were still being worked out and the equipment changed rapidly, so the individual variants differ quite a lot from one another. For a modeler that means the shape of the nose and the extent of the glazing have to be checked against the particular form.
Wash and dry the clear parts, because grease is the most common reason a mask does not hold. Lay them on dry and check the match with your model, because the individual variants of this series differ in the shape of the nose. Press the edges down carefully, spray perpendicularly and in thin coats. The interior color of the frames first, then the external camouflage. Take the masks off shortly after the paint has set.
