The English Electric Lightning was a British interceptor introduced at the beginning of the 1960s, and in many respects it was a machine without parallel. Its two engines were housed in the fuselage one above the other rather than side by side, which gives it an unusually narrow and tall fuselage. It excelled above all in rate of climb; it could reach great altitude faster than almost anything else flying at the time, because it was designed for a single task, namely to climb to the target as fast as possible and hit it. The price for that was a small fuel load and short endurance. The F.2A version therefore came about through the conversion of older F.2 machines to a later standard: it received a large ventral tank and a modified wing leading edge.

Before buying and before building, therefore, it pays off to compare the parts with the kit you have.
Cut surplus material and production marks off with a sharp blade a little away from the part and carefully sand the remainder down. Wash and degrease the parts before painting, otherwise the paint will not hold on a greasy surface. Choose the glue according to the material of the parts: cement for plastic models on polystyrene, and super glue on resin and printed parts. Dry-fit the add-on parts and mark the edge you are going to sand in advance, so that the shape that matters does not disappear on you. The bare metal surfaces around the nozzles will take a darker tone, which underlines their relief.
