The display machine marked 4-IR as it looked in 2023. The penultimate stop of an unbroken eight-year chronicle of one flying program.
Responsibility details are not available.
The coloring belongs to the Rafale C machine marked 4-IR and it held for the display season of 2023. The French solo display changes colors every year, so every such sheet is in essence a dated document of one particular summer season of air days – after it the machine returns to its ordinary finish and the scheme ceases to exist.
Most decal makers cover display schemes at random, according to which one happens to sell well. Here it is systematic work: the years follow one another without a gap and are accompanied by individual foreign display machines as well. A collection built from these sheets puts together a visual chronicle of one flying program, not just a set of showy pieces.
The preceding number covers the 2022 season and is of a comparable extent; both items have the same structure of name and differ only in the fuselage code and the year. The following year, 2024, is a step more extensive. Anyone buying the individual years should therefore watch exactly the fuselage code, because by the name alone the neighboring years are easily confused.
The coloring works with a large area on the fin and with elements passing over riveted joins. It pays to apply a setting solution under the decal, to go over it with a softener once settled and to prick any air bubbles with a point rather than pressing them out. Patience pays off here more than force.
