An injection-molded plastic kit of the Lockheed F-104G Starfighter supersonic fighter in 1:72 scale from the Italian maker Italeri. The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. The box contains drop tanks, short-range missiles and a reconnaissance pod, and the decals allow several NATO operators to be built.
The F-104 Starfighter was an American single-seat, single-engine supersonic fighter capable of around twice the speed of sound. It was marked by a slim fuselage and very short, thin wings, which earned it the nickname the missile with a man in it. The F-104G version was multi-role and became the main export variant; in the 1960s and 1970s the NATO air forces, including those of Germany, Italy and the Netherlands, operated it in large numbers, in both the fighter and the fighter-bomber roles.
Use a thin modeling cement on the plastic, and fill and sand the parting joints of the fuselage and the wings. Apply a primer before painting; the bare-metal surfaces typical of the Starfighter come out well with quality metallic paints applied by airbrush. Paint and glue the drop tanks and the stores separately and fit them at the end of the build.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
