This etched set from the Czech manufacturer Eduard adds fine metal detail to a plastic kit of the Su-27 in 1:72 scale. It is not an aircraft model but an accessory that replaces and sharpens selected plastic parts of the kit. Sets of this kind usually cover the elements of the cockpit — the instrument panel, seat belts, levers and small covers — etched in thin metal of a kind that injection-molded plastic cannot capture in a small scale.
The Sukhoi Su-27 is a Soviet twin-engine heavy fighter built to win air superiority. It stands out for its long range, powerful armament and exceptional agility, made possible by fly-by-wire controls and the integrated aerodynamics of the fuselage and wings. The machine became the basis of a whole family of derived types used in many countries.
Etched parts are cut from the fret, bent along the pre-scored lines and bonded with super glue (cyanoacrylate); on larger surfaces a two-part epoxy helps. Tweezers, a photo-etch bending tool and patience are recommended — the set is meant for more experienced modelers.
This is a detail accessory, not a model in its own right. The base kit, glue and paints are not included in the package.
