Pre-cut masks of kabuki tape for the two-seat versions of the F-15 aircraft in 1:72 scale. According to the name the set covers both variants given, the F-15E and the F-15I. The masks are die-cut to the shape of the frames and areas of the model; they are laid on, pressed down and taken off after spraying, and the result is a sharp transition of the kind that hand-laid tape achieves only with difficulty in this scale. The BASIC level marks the basic extent of a set at New Ware.
The F-15E is a two-seat multirole version of the F-15 fighter with a crew of a pilot and a weapon systems officer, adapted for strikes against ground targets as well. The F-15I is its Israeli derivative with the same basic layout of the airframe and a tandem cockpit. For the modeler what mainly matters is that a two-seat canopy has more frames than the single-seat version and takes longer to mask.
In 1:72 scale the individual masks are really small, so have sharp tweezers and good light ready. Wash the clear parts beforehand in lukewarm water with detergent and let them dry; grease from the fingers is the commonest reason why a mask comes away. Seat the mask dry, check the overlap across the frame and then press it down with a toothpick along its whole length. It is advisable to apply the cockpit interior color first and the top shade over it, so that the frames do not look translucent from inside. Spray thinly, in two or three coats; a heavy coat creates a ridge at the edge of the mask that shows once it is off.
This is a masking accessory, not a kit. The model, paints and glue are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
