The real subject

The F/A-18E and F/A-18F Super Hornet is an American twin-engine carrier combat aircraft. The single-seat version carries the designation E, the two-seat one F. Compared with the older Hornet the Super Hornet is larger and has differently arranged air intakes, yet it remained a machine that fits on the deck of an aircraft carrier.

What the set offers

Replacement exhaust nozzles in the opened position. On kits this area tends to be simplified: the nozzle is shallow, solid, or split into two halves with a seam down the middle, and yet nobody misses the view from behind on a finished model. The replacement part solves the depth of the view into the nozzle as well as the arrangement of its petals, which are obvious at first glance on this aircraft. The opened position corresponds to a wide spread; which variant to use on your model can be told from a photograph of the particular machine, because the position of the nozzles changes with the engine setting and with the situation in which the aircraft was captured.

Building and painting tips

• cut the original nozzles off the kit a little away from the part and sand the rest
• carefully remove any excess material and production marks from the replacement parts
• the parts are not polystyrene, cement for plastic has no effect on them, so make the joint with cyanoacrylate
• wash and degrease the parts before painting
• paint the nozzles separately and fit them only after the surrounding area has been finished
