The kit 1:72 Focke-Wulf Fw 190D-14 Prototype from IBG models covers a little-known test version of the long-nose Dora.
Responsibility details are not available.
A plastic kit from the Polish manufacturer IBG models that adds to its extensive family of long-nose aircraft in the small scale. The subject is a version that never got past the test aircraft stage.
The Fw 190D family grew out of converting a proven radial-engined fighter to a liquid-cooled powerplant. The change called for a longer nose and, for balance, a longer rear fuselage as well, which is where the aircraft got the nickname long nose. While the production D-9 became the best-known member of the family, the D-14 version tested a different powerplant from another supplier and stopped at a handful of aircraft. That is exactly what makes it interesting for a modeler: a familiar silhouette with a differently arranged nose and an unusual story.
In the small scale clean joints decide everything, because the elongated nose is made up of several parts and every step in the surface will show. It pays to finish the cockpit before the fuselage is closed and to mask the clear parts with tape cut to size. Late German camouflage tends to be mottled, so spray it in thin coats to keep the blotches from bleeding into one another.
The kit comes unassembled and unpainted, and glue and paints are bought separately.
