A set of layered decals for the cockpit of the long-range Focke-Wulf Fw 200 Condor in the small 1:72 scale, fitted to the Trumpeter kit.
Responsibility details are not available.
The Condor was born as a four-engine transport aircraft and in 1938 it managed the flight between Berlin and New York without an intermediate landing. The war gave it entirely different work: it patrolled over the Atlantic, looked for Allied convoys and directed submarines onto them, or attacked on its own. The British side called it the scourge of the Atlantic, because a single aircraft could threaten a whole group of ships. It paid for that with a structure that was not built for combat loads: the airframe derived from a civil type broke behind the wing on harder landings. The cockpit kept the roominess of an airliner, with an extensive panel and stations for several crew members.
In 1:72 scale in particular, working out an interior like that by hand is all but impossible. Layered printing offers instruments with bezels of their own, levers and distribution boards at a height a brush would never create, and with the coloring finished at the factory.
The set matches the kit from Trumpeter in this scale. Degrease the surface, release the film in lukewarm water and move it into place with a soft brush. Draw the water off, let it set and finally unify it with a matte varnish. Obtain the aircraft and the paints separately.
Anyone building a maritime patrol aircraft is usually aiming at a scene with a gray sky over the ocean and long hours of steady flight. A worked-out cockpit gives that credibility, because it was from there that the crew searched for smoke on the horizon. If you are planning a model with the door slid open or with figures, the interior becomes the main point of the whole display case.
