The Sd.Kfz.231 was a German heavy armored car intended for reconnaissance. Its wheeled chassis gave it high speed and a long range on hard-surfaced roads, so it suited rapid reconnaissance ahead of advancing units. In a rotating turret it carried a 20 mm gun and a coaxial machine gun, that is armament meant for defense and for fighting light targets rather than for duelling with tanks. The armor stayed thin, and the crew's protection was above all speed.
This is a plastic kit in 1:72 scale, that is the size in which the car comes out at about eight centimeters in length. The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted; the parts are separated with a sharp blade and the remains after cutting are sanded down. How many parts the package holds, which marking options it offers and whether decals are enclosed is stated by the manufacturer's instructions and the information on the packaging.
The small scale forgives less than it seems: the parts are small, so try them dry before gluing and dose the glue sparingly, so that it does not run into the engraved lines. Glue the wheels so that they all stand in one plane; on a wheeled car any unevenness shows at first glance. Wash and degrease the model before painting, and apply the paint in thin coats.
