Fujimi 1:350 IJN Kagero — a large plastic model of the lead ship of the Kagero class, the most successful generation of Japanese fleet destroyers of the Second World War.
Responsibility details are not available.
A large plastic kit of the Japanese destroyer Kagero from the manufacturer Fujimi in 1:350 scale. Kagero gave her name to a whole class of nineteen fleet destroyers that formed the backbone of the Japanese torpedo forces in the Pacific. The 1:350 scale offers plenty of room for detailed armament and intricate superstructures, and the finished model is an impressive piece on its own in a display case.
The Kagero class represented the peak of the development of Japanese fleet destroyers: about 2000 tons of standard displacement, a speed of around 35 knots, six 127 mm guns in twin turrets and eight 610 mm torpedo tubes for Type 93 oxygen torpedoes with a stock of reloads. Kagero, completed in 1939, went through the fighting from Pearl Harbor and Midway to the exhausting night actions in the Solomons. In May 1943 she struck a mine off Rendova and sank after the air raids that followed.
Spray the hull in Imperial Japanese Navy gray and the deck in a darker shade according to period photographs. Build the torpedo tubes and the turrets step by step according to the instructions and bond them with a thin cement for plastic. In the large scale add-on photo-etched railings and general detail come out well; a wash and fine vertical streaks will give the hull a working look.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
