1:72 Germany 8,8cm Kw.K.43 Gun Barrel Set

Flyhawk 1:72 metal gun barrel 8.8 cm KwK 43

An accessory for modelers of military vehicles in 1:72 scale from the Flyhawk brand. The set contains a turned metal barrel for the German 88 millimeter tank gun with the long barrel, that is, the weapon carried by the heaviest German tanks and tank destroyers of the end of the war. The metal barrel has the correct profile, is perfectly straight and needs no cleaning up of a parting line. The kit is not included in the package. In 1:72 scale a plastic barrel is also often slightly bent, which on a long weapon is visible at first glance.

The real subject

The KwK 43 gun of 88 millimeter caliber with a barrel length of 71 calibers was the most effective German tank weapon of the Second World War. Thanks to its high muzzle velocity it punched through the armor of Allied tanks at ranges from which its opponents could practically not reply. The long barrel, though, worsened the balance of the turret and, in broken terrain, the mobility of the vehicle too.

Use

• cut the plastic barrel off at the face of the mantlet and open the hole up with a pin vise
• fit the metal barrel dry and check that it is in line with the turret
• glue with cyanoacrylate, which holds best on a joint between metal and plastic
• degrease the metal before painting and give it a primer for metal
• fit the barrel at the end of the build, so that it does not get bent while handling

The set is intended for modelers who build with an emphasis on detail. The kit, glue and paints are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
