A set of photo-etched parts in 1:72 scale for a model of the Grumman F-14A Tomcat carrier-based fighter. It refines the places where an injection molding is too coarse.
Responsibility details are not available.
The Grumman F-14A Tomcat is an American carrier-based fighter with a crew of two, a pilot and a systems operator in the rear cockpit. The most conspicuous feature of the machine is its variable-geometry wing: for takeoff and landing on the deck the wing is spread, and as speed rises it sweeps back. Operation from aircraft carriers marked the whole design, from the rugged landing gear to the arrestor hook. That is precisely why the Tomcat is a rewarding type among modelers, one where it pays to give attention to detail.
This is a set of photo-etched parts in thin metal sheet. Photo-etch can capture a thickness that injection-molded plastic never has: instrument panels, seat belts, grilles and small frames look more faithful once it is fitted. The parts are held in the fret by small tabs and are taken off gradually during the build. The range of the set and the position of the parts are described in the manufacturer's instructions.
Cut a part off with a sharp blade on a hard surface and sand the remains of the tab flush. Make the bends over a metal edge or in a bender. It is bonded with super glue, of which a tiny amount is enough; cement for polystyrene has no effect on metal. Before painting, degrease the sheet and use an undercoat intended for metal. Fit the cockpit elements before you close up the fuselage and leave the small items on the outside until the end of the build, so that they do not get bent during handling.
The set is an accessory for a kit. The model, paints, glue and decals are not part of the delivery, unless stated otherwise.
