An injection-molded plastic kit of the American carrier-based Grumman KA-6D Intruder in 1:72 scale from Italeri. It is the tanker version of the attack Intruder, with engraved surface detail; the kit allows the wings to be folded as an option and offers decals for several marking variants. The package holds gray and clear plastic.
The Grumman A-6 Intruder was a carrier-based attack aircraft of the US Navy for precision strikes in all weathers. The KA-6D version was converted into an aerial tanker: it carried a system for in-flight refueling and served to extend the range of the other carrier aircraft, and could stand in as a reserve attack aircraft. It operated from the decks of aircraft carriers and was an integral part of the carrier air wings.
Use thin cement for plastic and finish the cockpit (the crew sit side by side) before closing the fuselage. The kit allows the wings to be shown folded, so decide before you glue. Apply a primer before the finish and lay the colors on with an airbrush; the typical scheme is light gray above and white below, where light panel highlighting and discreet salt-water weathering help.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
